Capitec Bank has reported significant growth in its digital banking services for the six-month period ending August 2026. The bank’s monthly app users increased by 18% to 16.5 million, while digital transaction volumes rose by 26% to 662 million. This growth reflects a broader shift toward digital financial services in South Africa.
The rise in digital activity was driven by increased use of mobile and wearable payment platforms. Payments through Apple Pay, Garmin Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay saw a 68% increase, reaching 2.4 million transactions. This trend highlights the growing preference for contactless and mobile-based financial services among consumers.
Capitec’s expansion in digital banking aligns with global trends toward financial technology innovation. The bank has been investing heavily in its digital infrastructure to meet rising customer demand. Analysts suggest that this growth could position Capitec as a leader in the digital banking sector in the region.
The bank’s focus on digital transformation has also led to improved customer engagement and satisfaction. With more users accessing services through apps and wearable devices, Capitec is adapting to the evolving needs of its clientele. This strategy is expected to continue shaping the future of banking in South Africa.
