The South African Police Service (SAPS) has reported a surge in interest for its latest trainee recruitment, with over 172,000 applicants registering within three days. The online campaign, launched on October 21, aims to fill 5,500 positions across the country.
The recruitment process includes a profile verification stage, which has seen more than 232,000 applicants complete the initial steps. The SAPS has not yet released details on the final selection numbers or the next steps in the process.
This recruitment follows a period of increased demand for police officers in South Africa. The country has faced challenges in maintaining security and public safety, prompting calls for expansion of the police force. The SAPS has previously announced plans to increase the number of trainees to address staffing shortages and improve service delivery. The current campaign reflects a continued effort to attract qualified candidates and strengthen the police force.
