A KwaZulu-Natal detective has accused members of the Political Killings Task Team of kidnapping and intimidation. Detective Sergeant Carlton Anthony Thomas said he was forced to stay at the provincial police headquarters and pressured to implicate three men in a plot against police commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Thomas provided a sworn statement detailing his experience. He was called from Brighton Beach police station to the SAPS headquarters. He claims he was not allowed to leave and was threatened to name individuals as part of an alleged conspiracy.
The case has been formally opened by authorities. The allegations involve criminal charges of kidnapping, intimidation, and theft. The accused are members of the PKTT, a group known for investigating politically motivated killings.
The situation remains under investigation. No arrests have been made yet. The police are looking into the claims and the circumstances surrounding Thomas’s detention.
